Rosgeology successfully completed field seismic surveys in the Kingdom of Bahrain

Rosgeology fully completed the complex of offshore and onshore geophysical works under a contract with the State Oil and Gas Development Company of the Kingdom of Bahrain Tatweer Petroleum - Bahrain Field Development Company W.L.L., concluded in March 2019. The purpose of the research is to make more exact the parameters of the country's largest field with potential reserves of about 80 billion barrels of oil and up to 20 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, which was announced discovered in 2018 by the High Committee for Natural Resources and Economic Security of Bahrain.

The successful fulfillment of the contract in Bahrain has once again demonstrated that Rosgeology has all the necessary competencies for seismic exploration in transit zones and on the deep sea shelf,” said Sergey Gorkov, General Director and Chairman of the Management Board of JSC Rosgeology. “At present, in accordance with our long-term strategy, we are actively working to expand the portfolio of international projects, including in the Middle East.”

As part of the project, specialists from JSC Yuzhmorgeologiya and JSC Kaliningradgeofizika (subsidiaries of JSC Rosgeology) conducted seismic, gravimagnetic and geochemical studies throughout the territorial waters of the Kingdom of Bahrain, including the deep sea shelf and the shallow-water transit zone, as well as on the adjacent land . On the shelf, Yuzhmorgeologiya performed 2D marine seismic exploration using the methods of common depth point and refracted waves with a total length of profiles of about 1,400 linear kilometers, as well as gravimagnetic studies in the amount of 1,677 linear km. Onshore, Kaliningradgeofizika conducted a 2D seismic survey in the amount of 92 linear kilometers.

To carry out the works on the shelf, the research vessel 'Professor Logachev' of the JSC Polar Marine Exploration Expedition (a subsidiary of JSC Rosgeology ) was involved, which was the base for the expedition and served as a signal recorder, as well as three additional vessels: a deep-sea source , a vessel handling the bottom equipment and a pinger ship locating the bottom cable.

To carry out seismic surveys in the transit zone of Bahrain, specialized small vessels were delivered from Russia: a vessel that provides signal excitation in extremely shallow water, and two vessels handling the bottom equipment in shallow water. Together, the specialists of Kaliningradgeofizika and Yuzhmorgeologiya conducted the so-called "seamless survey" at the land-sea junction in accordance with the best international standards.

Background information:

In September 2016, during the visit of King of Bahrain to Russia, JSC Rosgeology and Nogaholding, oil and gas holding company of the Kingdom of Bahrain, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of oil and gas and exploration services. According to customer's (Tatweer Petroleum - Bahrain Field Development Company W.L.L., part of Nogaholding) requirements the geological and technical assignment for the project was prepared and agreed at the end of 2018. Based on the results of the tender procedures, the Tender Committee of the Kingdom of Bahrain recognized the technical and commercial proposal of Rosgeology JSC as the most attractive. The contract between Tatweer Petroleum and Rosgeology was signed in March 2019.
